Camac Wallpaper Exhibition LDF

Tori's Art Deco wallpapers selected to go to the London Design Festival and be exhibited at the Dominion Theatre by Camac.

CAMAC is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation founded by Caroline McNamara.  Each year Camac's flagship event is its Annual Student Wallpaper Design Competition. Now in its 6th year,  it  attracts entrants from students studying textiles, fine art and ceramics from colleges across the UK and Europe, and for the first time in 2014 Australia.  This year the exhibition centres around an Art Deco theme and takes place in the newly refurbised Dominion Theatre in London, as part of the London Design Festival.

Tori's Decodence Wallpaper Collection is influenced by her research into the ‘flapper’ generation and how the women of that era ‘overthrew’ conventional moral codes and liberated their bodies from the corset, whilst experiencing newfound freedoms in the forms of emancipation, increased education and opportunities for work.

Her research into the Deco era gave rise to ideas about ‘orderliness’, which Tori translated into stripes and strong geometric Art Deco elements.  Within her designs, this sense of ‘order’ is ‘overthrown’ to represent the era’s new liberties by utilising motif's that cut across striped boundaries or having unrestrained movement within the confines of a stripe.

Tori’s designs are screen-printed by hand onto pearlescent papers with pearl pigments to suggest the opulence and glamour of the Art Deco period and incorporate bold patterning and a sophisticated colour palette to create a fresh twist on traditional Art Deco motif to complement contemporary living.
