18 July 2013

On the 18th July, Purvaai, a home décor company specialising in handcrafted textiles and traditional embroidery techniques, annouced the winner of it second annual Textile Design Competition at an awards cermony held at Craft Central in London.

Tori was awarded first prize for her interpretation of the theme 'Naturally Yours', which was inspired by current trends in interiors and Pantone's share of the year - Emerald Green.

The many entries reflected the breadth of the the,e as partipants took inspiration fron flora, fauna, sea life and the insect world.

Tori's design uses emerald green, sea blues and various soft and warm shades of green that are reminiscent of sprint.  The motifs where inspired by a trip to the V&A museum, where Tori made hand-drawn sketches  of nesting birds and trees bursting into life based in the Indian marquetry she saw there.  She then transformed these into textiles designs using Illustrator and Photoshop, designing a range of cushions using high-end fabrics, such as shot-silk, and involving techniques including screen print, embrodiery and applique.

Tori was absolutely thrilled to meet her design heroine, Sarah Campbell at the awards ceremony.
